People People People!!!

One of my favourite Whakatauki [proverbs] – He aha te mea nui? He tangata he tangata he tangata! [What is the most important thing – it is people!]

Where do we spend a huge chunk of our time? At work for sure, and doing what? Using what resources we have to get the job done well so we can make a dollar/not make a loss. What often is our most effective/common/critical resource? Dealing with people and doing it well, particularly if you are a supervisor, team leader or manager.

Those communication skills and people skills are so important to get things done well, efficiently and effectively, avoiding costly mistakes, time wasting, and lets face it, having a decent positive work environment where we don’t mind being and where we spend so much time.

The National Certificate in Business – First Line Management Level 3 is an awesome qualification for current and/or aspiring team leaders and managers. The first module – ‘Communication and Conflict Management’ is the ideal starting point, focusing on people through real world practice of some core communication skills – Active listening; Giving effective instructions; Giving feedback effectively, and handling feedback yourself positively; and how to recognise and utilise strategies for managing conflict.
Module 1 provides the foundations for the next 2 modules – People Development, and Leadership and Teams.
